Had a "fun" conversation again with my 3-year old son. His daddy was having a sore throat so he couldn't read to Schenker. I took over. He chose the story - the ever favorite Jonah story.
Since it's a Toddler's Bible, all the stories were simplified. I simplied it some more. The story went like this:
Mommy: God told Jonah to go to Nineveh. (I had to pause coz he corrected me on how to pronounce the word Nineveh). But Jonah said: I don't want! (I tried mimicking his voice, to make it look like God was talking to him). Because Jonah didn't obey God, the fish ate him.
Schenker: (he was looking like he's in a deep thought) Where is Jonah now?
Mommy: He's inside the tummy of the fish. The fish ate him because he didn't obey God.
Schenker: Daddy said he's in heaven.
Mommy: Oh okay... my story is not finished yet. (Continued with the story) But Jonah realized he disobeyed God. So he said, sorry God, this time I will go to Niniveh. So the fish spit him out. And Jonah became good boy. So when he died, he went to heaven.
Q&A:
Mommy: do you wanna go to heaven?
Schenker: (very big) NO!
Mommy: why you don't want?
Schenker: I'm not Jonah!
LOL!!!
Mommy: Okay... but, tomorrow, when Mommy tells you to eat food, you have to eat your food, okay... don't say what Jonah said: I don't want! Because the fish might eat you! (This time, I have gone far - I know)
Schenker: No mommy, the fish will not eat me coz it is small. I will eat the fish.
Hahahaha! I really couldn't take it. I laughed out so loud again. Then I saw him, he was still in a serious mood. So I tried so hard to stop my laughter. I tickled him and said... okay, you eat the fish with rice tomorrow, yeah?
And he said: Okay. (his favorite dish with rice is fish)
Conversing with toddlers (preschoolers?) is really fun. But of course, you have to be careful in everything you say. They really take every word you say.
