clearance sale

There's gonna be a clearance sale at Bangsar Village II on 2 and 3 August. Brands offered include: Diva, Pumpkin Patch, Karen Millen & More. It's from 11am - 8pm, third floor, Bangsar Village. It's been a long time since I haven't gone to Bangsar Village. Hmmm.. am I going? Unfortunately not. Crowded places makes my head swirl... and dizzy. I don't mind going for books sale though. It's worth buying books. It doesn't lose its value although it's already second hand.

Passion KL

The Passion Group World Tour has started its tour! And they're coming to Malaysia in 3 days time. Can't wait to see Chris Tomlin and Charlie Hall. My husband got friends with them when he went to the US to attend the Passion Conference. Louie Giglio will be here too! I love his sermons. The first one I saw/heard was the Indescribable where he described God using astronomy as an example. It was a pre-Christmas sermon I saw/heard it and it had really impacted my way of celebrating Christmas after I heard it.

It's really great that my husband is one of those who are helping organize this Passion KL concert. Duol ba sa luwag. Hehehe. Anyways... hubby included me to have dinner with the team just before the concert.

Of course, can't wait to see the worship concert too. I'll be sitting next to Priyah, the Miss Malaysia World 2007. LOL. I sound like I'm looking forward to seeing these people and not the concert itself. Hehehe. Of course, I am excited for the concert too. I'd be meeting God in a fresh new way. That's the best of all!

understanding google

and it's pr (page rank) distribution. if you're into seo and stuff like that, you would notice that there's no right formula for gaining page ranks. page rank has been a rave for us, bloggers, especially when we start monetizing our blogs. the higher pr we have, the higher our offers to write we get. for the past 6 months of being aware of page ranks, i have noticed one thing. they (googlebot) visit and distribute pr's quarterly and everytime they do, there's always a different criteria.

this is just an observation. nothing concrete, no solid bases, just a pure assumption. last distribution was all about backlinks. they had a formula that resulted in high pr, using backlinks, outbound links and such. and so, i have noticed that a lot of bloggers created meme's, tags, and things like that to increase their backlinks. some did viral tags, gathered all the links they can and they put nofollow on their outbound links. i have seen tags that were created by some bloggers and they put nofollow on the links that have joined their tags. so they get all the backlinks they want, without giving outbound links to those who joined their tags. hmmm... this is rather a different subject. i just mention it here coz i discovered this when i checked my backlinks.

anyways, back to google's PR formula. since google just recently distributed PR's, i have noticed some confusing thing. my other blog has almost 3000 backlinks. this blog has only 610 (to be exact) backlinks). but this blog has pr and my other blog that has almost 3000 backlinks didn't get any PR. so backlinks didn't count at all, right?

i made a further study and i used my friend's blog to compare with mine. i searched for the indexed pages for these blogs. again, this is just another assumption, not a real thing. i noticed that my friend's indexed pages is a lot! this blog's indexed pages is higher than that of my other blog's indexed pages that has 3,000 backlinks. so, robably this time's distribution, the formula has something to do with the number of indexed pages you have against the age of your blog. why am I saying this? my other blog at a mother's heart, is new, backlinks only few, traffic, barely 300, but has a bit of indexed pages. its pr is 3.

hmmm so now, i have concluded that quarterly, google's formula to give PR varies. so there's no one seo websites can give us THE right formula for gaining google's page ranks. what do you guys think? am i making sense?

roman history

It's one of my favorite topics in my history subject in high school. That's why I appreciate all the movies regarding romans, its legendary and myth stories and movies. Rome had played an important role in world civilization too. One automatically thinks of Julius Caesar, the Ides of March, the Coliseum, Christians and Jews thrown to the lions everytime we hear about Rome and Roman History. One of the famous things about rome is the gladiator thing where gladiators fight in the center of the arena. Although it's good to see in the movies, i wonder if ever I can take it if it happens live. And so one of the places i want to visit is rome. I want to see their beautiful historical and cultural attractions. Of course, the first thing to do is find Rome hotels and Rome apartments. There should be a lot of hotels and apartments available. Mauro and Paola at romaclick.com are a couple of real experts in leisure travel in Italy. They live there. That's why they know everything about rome. Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trastevere, St Peter's Basilica and the Vatican. These are the places that make Rome the Eternal City and these are the sights I want to visit. St Peter's Basilica is a fifth century church and is famous for housing Michelangelo's recently restored and seminal sculpture of Moses. The church also contains chains that, according to tradition, bound the Apostle Peter during his imprisonment in the Mamertine jail. That is indeed very interesting. As I am writing this, I get very excited coz I can just imagine being inside this beautifully designed church, looking at Michaelangelo's paintings!

bought a new domain

as i have said in my previous post, happy day, my blog at wordpress, http://jan8t.wordpress.com was slapped by google. from pr2, now it's pr0. i was actually just waiting for it to happen like that so that i can move it to a new domain. i didn't want to move it before because it still had a pr. you know, if you're a wordpress user, earning from it will be of limited coz paid post companies don't accept wordpress blogs. wordpress usually doesn't allow their free wordpress blogs to be monetized, that's why. i only get opportunities to write there from loudlaunch but it's not much. and now that it's pr is 0, i bought a domain for it. from http://jan8t.wordpress.com, it is now http://jan8t.com. so i am staring all over again for that blog. that means, i can only get pr 5 to 6 months later (i hope) and can only monetize it from there. for now, i'm happy that i can still do reviews and earn at the same time with two of my blogs. cheers!

my old friend

A friend of mine just gave me a call. It was a pleasant surprise because I didn't know that she's been in Malaysia for 7 years already. That's one year ahead of me! Actually, she was my brother's ex-girlfriend. Their relationship didn't work and now they have their own families. But she remained a friend, although we haven't been in touch like ages already. How did she know I was here too? Her sister (who happened to be a family friend also), moved back to Butuan with her family. I think they chanced on meeting my mom. My mom probably told her I was here. So she called her sister and gave me my phone number. Thank God for international calling cards. It makes communication faster and better. Not all will have computers and internet connections in the Philippines and so for better and faster contact, we use international phone calls. Calling from the Philippines is made easier and better.

Now the plan is to meet up with my friend. She lives in Putra Jaya. That's quite a distance from my place. But can't wait to see her and catch up with her.

Gymboree and Korean Barbecue

We had a very interesting weekend for Jan. We'd been wanting him to attend his Gymboree playgroup in Bangsar Village, but everytime we go, it's either he would fall asleep and not get up until the hour is finished or he's not in the mood to join. And that's what happened last Saturday. We went and as we drove, he fell asleep in the car. We thought probably he'd get up by the time we reach the place. But when we reached the place and got down from the car, he was still asleep. As we went inside there was some kind of noise made by the Chinese celebrating CNY. It was soo noisy as they were performing the Lion Dance. And again, I thought probably, this time he would wake up. But sad to say, he slept through the noise. So we ended up going back to the house not joining his playgroup that day.

Had an interesting weekend for me as well. After our trip to Bangsar Village, we went to the KTM station to fetch Pete and Dot (Australian - teachers of MCMS) and took them to a Korean Barbecue in Taipan. I was so excited to take them there coz the last time we went there we had sooo much fun and we enjoyed the food so much! But this time, I didn't know why... After our food, I had this some kind of tummy feeling. After we got home, I got sick and threw up everything I ate. It was terribly disgusting! And no, it's not what you think. I'm not pregnant. I just had this kind of terrible reaction when I eat a certain food my tummy doesn't like.

I had to rest and not go to church the next day. We missed 2 Sundays of church already. Jan and Samantha missed their toddlers' and cradle roll classes for 2 Sundays now. Hopefully we could go to church next weekend.

And yes! I did my sauna in Sunway Club again. After my spa experience in Hatyai, I was encouraged to do my sauna again. I'm hoping to do this at least once a week. (When Peter is not too busy anymore). MCMS is still going on... so Peter goes to office early (at around 8 am) coz he has to send the couple who's staying with us.

We're having a team dinner tomorrow night. I'm glad I'm not cooking this time. Appreciate the rest. Sue is doing taco for dinner! Cool. We're having western meal again. Yum yum! Will get others to share food also.

Okiedoc... this is all for now. Will see if there's something interesting that will happen during our dinner tomorrow then I could write more.

whom do we trust?

One thing funny (and scary too) about us, people, nowadays is we don't trust each other anymore. even your own neighbor, you don't trust that much. how? Everytime I open my internet to connect online, I would see a line of internet connectivity, from my neighbors, including mine. And you would be happy that there are so many wireless network available in the area. Not true. Everybody's network connections need password so you don't and you can't simply connect internet from their network. We can't blame us though, with a lot of hackers and stealing of passwords and all that, we better put our internet on secured connection. Same thing with offices, we need to have a secure shell for our network. Happy Day

My PR is back. It's only 2/10, compared to 3/10 last time, but I am happy with it. Last night, my friend Josiet was telling me in my cbox that she saw my PR. But I couldn't tell because it was not showing in my tool bar. Late this afternoon today, when I got online, I opened my YM and saw a lot of offline messages. I didn't read yet coz I receive a Congratulation message from my friend Aisha. And I asked her why. I thought probably my blog was featured in Social Spark or I have a best post to date. Hehehe. It wasn't the news but she told me of the better one. I got my PR! I checked all my blogs and my other blog, the other side of me, has lost its PR from PR2, now it's 0. But the other good news is, A Mother's Heart, my parenting blog got pr3! And oh, while I was still online, my friend Ruby sent me a photo file. She took a snapshot of one of my blogs being featured in Social Spark. Indeed, it's a happy day.
P.S. As of this moment, this blog, expressions and thoughts, by the way, is also featured in Social Spark.

my passport

i have been in malaysia for 5 years and 7 months now. it has been a good 5 years although i had to struggle quite a bit for the first few months because my bag was snatched while walking out of the church. my passport was inside my bag, which was newly renewed (just 3 days old). i had to re-apply for a new one and re-apply for a visa to stay in malaysia. that's where the hard part came in. malaysian immigration officers gave me a hard time, asking me nasty questions for half a day, only to give me 3 days to leave the country. that was quite a bad experience for me. it took me a long time to recuperate from fear of snatch thieves, fear of facing immigration officers and fear of crossing the border. but i have overcome that fear, thank God. and this reminds me that i have to renew my one year visa next month.

Blogging Earnings

I have been monetizing my blog/s for 7 months now. And it has been a fruitful one. I started out of curiosity. Could I really make money with my blogs? I asked husband's permission. He said no at first. And I thought I wouldn't go ahead without his blessings. The next day, he asked me about it and what it entailed. I explained. I got a go signal. 7 months later I earned $1,000+. In fact my average monthly earning is $200+ per month. It's not much compared to my US-based blogger friends. But it's better than nothing at all! I had spent my first month's income by celebrating it with family by shopping, dining out, etc. And I haven't spent the rest of it. Yet. I was considering of investing it in shares. There was a friend who came to us and offered us about it. But it turned out questionable. So right now, the plan B is to put it into savings.

I've been browsing the net about online Savings Account. And I found WaMu Checking & Savings Accounts. They offer a free online banking and free electronic statements. Those are two cool stuff that I have found out about WaMu. They only require $300.00 as a minimum balance. That's not bad at all, is it. You know when you have a savings account, usually the bank would charge a minimum fee, right? Not with WaMu. There is no monthly service charge when you open Online Savings account. There's no fee when you check your account online too. And it's very easy to access it through ATM machines.

Now the next thing to do is find out whether there's WaMu in my area.

Co-sleeping With Kids

We have been co-sleeping with kids since they're babies. I believe in doing so. It creates a special bond between parents and kids. I started co-sleeping with my boy when he got sick at 9 months old. Since then, he's been sleeping with us on our bed. With Samantha, I started co-sleeping with her when I went back to the Philippines for a break for 6 weeks. There was no cot/crib available so I put her next to me to sleep.

What does it do in our marriage? Some people say it can be detrimental for marriage. No privacy, no cozy moments. In our case, we put our kids to sleep early and spend the private and cozy moments somewhere else. So it doesn't really have a negative effect on us. In fact, it does good to our kids. I have discovered and mastered the art of nursing Samantha on the other side and hugging my boy on the other side at the same time. It looks funny. But it works for us. My boy then doesn't feel left out. He gets the security (his love language is physical touch) and the assurance he needs at night.

We have a king-sized bed so it can fit everybody. The only thing is that we have to remove the legs of the bed so that the mattress touches the floor. Just to protect my girl from falling off the bed that high. So now it looks like it's a platform bed. When I was searching online about Modern Platform Beds, I came across this beautiful bed from moder-contemporaryfurniture.com. They have such beautiful beds and I saw one that's perfect for my family. They have high quality beds. They're also durable and look very sophisticated. I so wish to have this bed. So then our co-sleeping moments with kids would be better. We could all sleep there until they grow old (wishful thinking). Hehehe.

starry starry night

tonight i especially remember my friend joseph. we got close since third year in college when we discovered we were on the same wavelength. there was no explanation needed. we just knew that we could be friends... best friends in fact (without strings attach). although i wasn't much into arts and paintings, i remember him being obsessed with them. can you imagine him taking engineering course and he was so much into arts and paintings? well, life was like that where i came from. whatever course that sounded glamorous, we're into it, neglecting our passion. he actually pursued his passion and love of arts by doing his own paintings even when he was working as an engineer already. and i remember him saying a lot of things about Vincent Van Goh and that he read his life story. and why the song starry starry night. if you are an art lover, you would know the reason of the song, wouldn't you? and so, everytime i hear that song, i remember my friend joseph. he had passed away already and i become very emotional when i hear that song. like joseph to vincent, i know very well my friend joseph's life story. nobody wanted to listen to him (except me - but i couldn't do anything else anymore because i was already away from the Philippines when it happened). and so his love for paintings grew. until he died. and tonight i miss him so badly. my husband knew about his story too and met him also when i took my husband to the Philippines to meet my family and friends. i was just sorry I wasn't there when he died. i was sorry for not being there at the funeral. whatever happened to his paintings - this i wonder. i hope the family has kept them. i wonder if they still have them. i would surely want to keep some of them as my own. how? maybe they can ship them to me. i know one website that does Art Moving. But it's only available in Massachussetes. Well, if you happen to be in that area and you want to ship your art, you might wanna check it out.

Fine Art is precious and very often fragile, and art shippers use special techniques and packaging materials to suit the particular piece or collection being moved. If you're moving fine art to or from your location in Massachusetts, consider using Minds Eye Fine Art Moving company. Their professional service is the surest way to transport your collection or individual items safely and securely. i wish there's something like that shipping company here too. i would definitely ask joseph's parents to sell and ship to me his works of art.

my friends are leaving me

what is it about US? most of my friends are leaving me now... some have gone already in fact. they are either married to an american and settle there or they're gone to work there. anyways, America is a good country, full of opportunities for people, and not a hint of discrimination around. unlike where i live now. discrimination and stereotyping are pretty obvious. i look like one of the races here, the malay people group. and you would think that i should be comfortable looking like them. NOT. all the more i get discriminated, especially when they see me walking with my husband. my husband's race is indian, malayalee by ethnicity. and when malays see me walking with him, i get a very weird look from them. like, what am i doing with the indian guy. there was one time when peter and i and the kids were at the park. i was sitting on the swing, turning around and round to look at my husband at my back because we were having a conversation. then there's this one old malay guy who came and asked me what i was doing. i was wondering why he asked me that. i didn't do any thing indecent. i was merely laughing and talking to my husband. then my husband told him i was his wife. the old man left. then it dawned on us. he must have thought i was a malay girl flirting with an indian guy! it was upsetting. but anyways, life for me is like that here where i live. i just have to accept that fact.

anyways, back to my friends who are now in the US. i'm not really sure how their lives are in the US. but i'm sure they're readily accepted there. my friend aisha is also leaving for US and i'm happy for her. at least she's going to be with her husband soon. the other day, i blogged about my husband taking me to the US one day. one of my friends who is currently living in the US promised me there's a lot of nice places to see there. i hope i could visit her too. i would love to go to the biggest mall in america. it's just a 15-minute drive away from their place. then there's new york. a lot of nice places to see. actually it's not very hard to do a tour in new york because there's JFK Airport Shuttle where they offer affordable, reliable and safe ground transportation services throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs. Their share-ride airport shuttles provide transfers in each direction between JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports and hotels, residences and businesses between Battery Park and 125th Street. They operate every day of the year. and they offer $5 discounts on round trips when booking online. Wow. Will have to look back into this IF (i'm saying IF) ever we go there one day.

My Husband in the US

Chris Tomlin with the Passion Worship band is coming! And it's gonna be soon. They're having a worship concert here in Malaysia on August 3, 2008. And I am going to be there. We already have somebody to look after the kids on that day. It is amazing. Remember when Peter went to US? It was this band that invited him to attend their conference in Atlanta. It was fully sponsored and we're truly honored that Peter was invited.

When Peter was in Atlanta, he didn't really get to roam around the state. He just went to a couple of malls to buy me somethings. But when he went to California, he was able to visit Hollywood. I'm supposed to post pictures of his trip to the US but it always slips my mind. He enjoyed his trip so much he promised to take me and the kids there one day. He was actually thinking of doing New York City Tours. Hmmm I wonder if it is going to come true. Ever.

If ever this is going to come true, I would love to visit Believe It or Not. Although we have that one here in Malaysia, I still would wanna see what's in there. I read from the internet that when you do New York city tours, you would be taken there. They also offer New York TV and Movie Sites Tour. And of course, I wanna see the statue of liberty! Now I can't wait to see that. I'm probably dreaming too much.

Where was I? Ahhh the concert. I can't wait to see the concert. I'm sure it's gonna be a refreshing one.

honesty

Those who lead good people along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the honest will inherit good things.

Proverbs 28:10

Encouragement for Today

"The honest will inherit good things." Note the word inherit. Usually you have to wait before you receive an inheritance. The "good things" mentioned in this verse may not come instantly. Over time, however, integrity will lead to good things coming your way, just as, eventually, those following an evil way will fall into their own trap. The results of our choices manifest over time, so be patient and continue on the path of integrity.
