So your family’s growing but your home isn’t. It would be nice if a house would extend to the same degree as the family grows, but this simply isn’t the case. You’re going to have to work out how to make more room with what you have so that everyone fits in comfortably. Although it may seem impossible when you take an overall view of the house, here are a few suggestions that should help you get on track.
Buy smaller furniture
Take a look around and see what kind of clunky furniture you have taking up extra space in your house. If you have a large stuffed oversized couch, for instance, it can easily be replaced with a modern type that doesn’t take up a lot of room but still sits the same amount of people. Do you have a large coffee table? Look for a thinner one that will give you more space between your couch and the table itself.
Take out some of the furniture
Take a look around your home and see if there is any kind of furniture that is not being used regularly. Most homes have something that adds a decorative touch but isn’t really very useful. If you have something like this you may find that removing it while your family is growing seems to make your house expand.
A lot of people with kids get rid of decorative furniture and only keep the useful pieces around to keep the home less cluttered and full of space. Don’t worry, it won’t take long before the kids are all grown up and you can once again fill your home with exquisite decorative furniture.
Get twin size bunk beds
If it’s time to add another child to a room that is already occupied, your best solution to buy some extra space in the room is to get twin size bunk beds. You won’t lose any floor space at all since these beds take up as much room as a single. Plus, most kids love the idea of getting bunk beds if they’ve never had them before!
Just because your family is growing doesn’t mean that you have to feel overcrowded in the house you have. It simply means that you have to use some creativity to expand the space you’re working with to meet the needs of your growing family.
